Power Outage? Here's What to Do
Power outages can happen unexpectedly, especially during periods of extreme heat when electricity demand is at its highest. While most outages are restored quickly, knowing what to do ahead of time can help keep you and your household safe.
Check the Status of the Outage
If your power goes out, first determine whether the outage is affecting only your apartment, only your building or the surrounding neighborhood.

During the Outage
- Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed to help preserve food.
- Unplug sensitive electronics or use surge protectors to prevent damage when power is restored.
- Use flashlights instead of candles whenever possible.
Be Prepared
